The National Guard of Agadez has achieved a major breakthrough in its ongoing security operations, intercepting a large cache of arms and contraband from suspected smugglers entering Niger Republic from Libya.
According to reports, the operation led to the seizure of thousands of rounds of ammunition, several firearms, hard drugs, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the traffickers. The successful interception took place on Thursday night along a known smuggling route near the Libyan border, following an intelligence-led surveillance by the Guard’s special patrol team.
The recovered items were formally handed over yesterday, Friday, to the Governor of Agadez, General Ibra Boulama Issa, who commended the security operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
General Issa praised the officers for their commitment to safeguarding the region, describing the operation as a testament to the government’s renewed efforts in combating cross-border crime and ensuring lasting peace in northern Niger.
Security analysts say the successful operation highlights growing concerns over arms trafficking from Libya, which remains a key source of weapons for militant and criminal groups across the region.
