Police operatives in Rivers State have uncovered a shocking human trafficking ring in Port Harcourt, arresting a notorious kingpin identified as Blessing Jack and three of her accomplices who specialized in using fake ultrasound scans to deceive vulnerable pregnant women into giving up their babies.
The syndicate, which operated mainly around the Igwuruta area of Port Harcourt, was busted on October 9, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m., following credible intelligence gathered by the Rivers State Police Command. According to police sources, the suspects allegedly forged medical scan results to convince expectant mothers that their unborn children were either dead or suffered serious deformities.
One of the intercepted conversations revealed how the gang orchestrated a deal in which a newborn baby was declared dead, only for the child to be secretly sold to a buyer for ₦2 million.
Those arrested alongside the ringleader, Blessing Jack, include Chinonso Raymond (30), Chinyere Okorie (32), and Nkechi Nwankwo (50), all residents of Port Harcourt. Investigations further revealed that Jack had previously served a three-year jail term in Calabar for similar offences related to child trafficking, a revelation that highlights her notoriety and the depth of her criminal network.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed that all four suspects are in custody as investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and identify other members and buyers connected to the illegal trade.
The shocking discovery has sparked outrage among residents, with many calling on the government to tighten surveillance around private maternity homes and unregistered clinics often used by traffickers to perpetrate such crimes.
Authorities have assured the public that the suspects will face prosecution under Nigeria’s anti-trafficking laws once investigations are concluded.
