The New Delta Grassroot Movement (NDGM), under the leadership of Engr. Felix Akpoyibo, has passed a vote of no confidence in the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, accusing him of abandoning his ministerial duties to serve as a campaign coordinator for Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a strongly worded open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the group called for Keyamo’s immediate removal from office, describing his endorsement of Oborevwori as the “sole candidate” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Delta governorship election as reckless, divisive, and undemocratic.
According to the group, Keyamo’s recent political moves have polarized the Delta APC, sidelining long-standing members who toiled for years to build the party’s structure in the state. The movement condemned the minister for “turning a federal appointment into a partisan tool of local politics” and urged President Tinubu to “preserve the credibility of his cabinet by sacking Keyamo immediately.”
“The Minister has abandoned his national duty and chosen to play the role of a self-appointed campaign coordinator for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” the group’s leader, Engr. Akpoyibo, stated. “He should hold on to that role and vacate his position as a federal minister.”
The statement also criticized the growing trend across APC-controlled states where governors, despite their poor performance, are being endorsed as “sole candidates” under the guise of supporting President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election. The group warned that such practice threatens to erode internal democracy, alienate genuine party loyalists, and destroy the party’s moral credibility.
“It is shameful that failed governors now hide behind President Tinubu’s name to justify their political ambitions,” Akpoyibo said. “As Governor of Lagos State, Tinubu earned his place in history through hard work, innovation, and performance — achievements that gave him credibility and the sellability that led to his victory in 2023. No governor should use his name as a cover for failure.”
The New Delta Grassroot Movement reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda but cautioned that “opportunists and political jobbers” within the party must not be allowed to contaminate the president’s legacy.
The group urged the APC National Working Committee to ensure that the 2027 primaries remain open, transparent, and competitive at all levels, warning that “the APC must not become a sanctuary for political failures but a platform for accountability and progress.”
“The people of Delta State stand firmly with President Tinubu,” the statement concluded. “But Festus Keyamo has lost our confidence. He has betrayed our trust, abandoned his duty, and must go.”
