Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued two officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service who were abducted in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The officers, identified as David Iorwuese James and Orasuur Oliver, were freed following a swift military operation after credible intelligence revealed their captors’ hideout. The troops stormed Tse Tembe and Adamawa Village in Azendeshi Council Ward, forcing the abductors to abandon their victims and flee.
Confirming the development, the Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, praised the gallantry of his men, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to restore peace and protect lives in the state. He disclosed that the rescued officers are currently receiving medical attention and being debriefed by security operatives.
General Gara reaffirmed OPWS’s commitment to safeguarding farmers and ensuring food security across Benue and its neighboring states. He also urged residents to continue volunteering credible information to security agencies to help flush out criminal elements terrorizing rural communities.
The rescue comes as part of intensified military efforts to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in Benue, which has been a hotspot of insecurity in recent years.
