In a shocking display of audacity, Waziri Bulama, former APC acting National Secretary, has questioned the authority of Abubakar Malami, SAN, to speak on behalf of late President Muhammadu Buhari and former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) members. Bulama’s assertion that “If not because Buhari appointed him as Justice Minister, who is Malami for God’s sake?” evidently reveals his ignorance of Malami’s illustrious background.
Before becoming Minister of Justice, Malami was already a respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), boasting an impressive resume that includes:
- National Legal Adviser of CPC (2011-2013)
- Chairman of the Legal Team of the CPC Presidential Campaign Organization (2011)
- Member of the Kano State Local Government Election Tribunal (2004)
- Resource Person on the Manifesto drafting Sub-Committee of Inter Joint Party
In contrast, Bulama’s credentials before becoming APC acting National Secretary are notably absent, raising questions about his motives and qualifications to critique Malami.
Bulama’s claim that “CPC is history; it does not exist at all” is a half-truth. While CPC merged with other parties to form APC in 2013, the spirit of CPC remains. Malami’s lamentation stems from the unilateral declaration of loyalty to President Tinubu by some CPC members without consulting other CPC blocs and the Tinubu administration’s apparent marginalization of CPC members, who are often relegated to minor roles.
The recent appointments of Masari, Almakura, and Yakubu Dogara as board chairmen, despite their distinguished backgrounds, underscored this point.
It’s clear that the Tinubu administration has favored old ACN members, only acknowledging CPC members when convenient.
In conclusion, Bulama’s attack on Malami is unfounded and misguided. Malami’s credentials and contributions to the APC far exceed Bulama’s. It’s time for Bulama to reflect on his own qualifications, motives, and relevance rather than questioning those of others.
