In a demonstration of respect, empathy, and solidarity, Dr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, CON, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the respected Islamic cleric, Imam Ahmed Ibrahim Bashir, in Birnin Kebbi.

The visit was both consolatory and supportive. Dr. Malami first offered his condolences to the Imam over the death of his family member, Hajiya Ma’inna Haruna Rasheed, praying for the repose of her soul and comfort for the bereaved family. He also expressed deep concern and sympathy regarding Imam Bashir’s recent unlawful removal as Imam of the historic Wala Juma’ah Mosque, describing the development as unfortunate and unjust to both the cleric and the larger Muslim community in Kebbi State.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Malami stressed the importance of safeguarding the dignity of religious leaders whose voices, he said, embody the values of truth, morality, and community guidance. According to him, leaders such as Imam Bashir must be protected and supported because of their pivotal roles in promoting peace, unity, and social stability.

Dr. Malami was accompanied by eminent personalities, including Dr. Sule-Iko Sadeeq Sani Sami (Marafan Zuru), Hon. Abubakar B. Sabo, and Hon. Abdulrahaman Ibrahim Sahihi. Their presence added weight to the visit, signaling the collective recognition of Imam Bashir’s contributions and the widespread concern over his recent ordeal.
The former Minister reiterated his commitment to standing by community leaders, noting that his visit was not only about personal solidarity but also about defending the principles of justice and fairness. He emphasized that when injustice is done to respected leaders, it reverberates across the entire community, creating wounds that must be healed with compassion and dialogue.

Observers described the visit as a reminder of Dr. Malami’s enduring relationship with the people of Kebbi State and his consistent efforts to bridge divides, foster understanding, and uphold justice. The gesture further cements his image as a leader deeply rooted in community values and committed to building a society founded on fairness, unity, and respect for institutions of faith.
