The Delta State Police Command has smashed a notorious kidnap gang that shocked the public by shooting their victim in the leg even after collecting a ransom of ₦2 million.
The suspects, identified as Chukwuebuka Nka (25 years old), Uche Okechukwu, and Somto Chukwuma, were paraded after a manhunt that spanned Delta and Anambra States. Their cruelty has stirred outrage, as many wondered how abductors who had already been paid could still punish their helpless victim.
According to police reports, the ordeal began when the victim was abducted from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku. Despite his family raising ₦2 million under pressure, the kidnappers turned on him, claiming his bank account balance was “insufficient.” They then shot him in cold blood before fleeing with the ransom.
A police sting operation later tracked two of the suspects to Anambra State, where the victim’s Toyota Venza was recovered. The third suspect was arrested at a hideout in Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku. Shockingly, operatives also recovered the gang’s operational vehicle and a network jammer circuit device, pointing to a level of sophistication often associated with organized crime.
The Delta Police Command condemned the barbarity of the act, stressing that no amount of ransom can guarantee criminals their freedom. “These men will face the full wrath of the law,” authorities vowed, assuring residents that the fight against kidnapping syndicates is being intensified across the state.
This latest arrest comes as part of the renewed police crackdown on violent crime, but it also leaves a bitter reminder of the rising audacity of criminal gangs who now extort families, collect ransom, and still inflict violence on their victims.
