ADC Movement Leaders Meet Malami, Announce NEC Inauguration Date

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Movement for a New Nigeria has taken a major step in its bid to reposition the party for the 2027 general elections by paying a courtesy visit to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), at his office in Abuja.

The high-powered delegation was led by Ambassador Chris Akpan, the National Chairman of the Movement, alongside Hon. Ahmed Yahya, the National Secretary. The group, which comprises representatives from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), used the occasion to introduce its leadership and structures to Malami, while also sharing its vision of building a formidable grassroots base for the ADC.

Ambassador Akpan explained that the ADC Movement for a New Nigeria is not just a political bloc within the party but a nationwide force aimed at driving inclusion, unity, and voter mobilization. He emphasized that the Movement’s mission is to galvanize Nigerians who are yearning for credible alternatives in governance.

“Our goal is to reposition the ADC as the true voice of the people, particularly the youth and marginalized groups. We are determined to build a platform that inspires confidence and delivers real development to Nigerians,” Akpan stated.

Hon. Yahya, on his part, highlighted the group’s immediate plan of action, including the inauguration of its National Executive Committee (NEC), scheduled to hold on November 12, 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja. The event, he said, would be a historic gathering of party faithful, stakeholders, and leaders committed to charting a new course for Nigeria.

Malami, in his remarks, welcomed the delegation warmly and commended their commitment to deepening democratic values through inclusive political engagement.

“It is encouraging to see young Nigerians and forward-looking leaders organizing themselves around a movement that prioritizes service and nation-building. I urge you to remain steadfast, united, and focused on issues that matter to ordinary Nigerians,” Malami told the group.

He further assured them of his goodwill and expressed optimism that their activities would contribute positively to Nigeria’s democratic process.

The visit is seen as part of the Movement’s broader strategy to consult widely with national leaders, stakeholders, and institutions ahead of 2027. Political observers note that with a presence across all 36 states and the FCT, the ADC Movement for a New Nigeria may emerge as one of the strongest mobilization forces within the party.

As the countdown to the NEC inauguration begins, members of the Movement say they remain confident that their efforts will set the ADC on a stronger footing to contest for power in the next general elections.
