As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the political landscape is already heating up with talks of potential alliances, mergers, and strategic candidacies. Among the names circulating, one ticket that stands out with unmatched national appeal and electoral strength is that of former President Goodluck Jonathan as presidential candidate, with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
This combination is not only politically strategic, but it also offers a unifying force in a deeply divided Nigeria.
Why Goodluck Jonathan?
Goodluck Jonathan remains one of the most respected democratic leaders Nigeria has produced. His peaceful handover of power in 2015 earned him international praise and solidified his reputation as a statesman. With his deep understanding of governance, economy, diplomacy, and national reconciliation, Jonathan brings maturity, credibility, and experience to the table.
His return to Aso Rock would symbolize stability, healing, and a second chance to fix what was broken during and after his first term with stronger resolve and greater wisdom.
Why Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as VP?
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and a prominent Northern political heavyweight, commands massive grassroots followership through the Kwankwasiyya movement. He is widely seen as one of the few politicians with street credibility across Northern Nigeria, particularly among youths and the urban poor.
Pairing him with Jonathan would not only consolidate votes in the North but also bridge the gap between Southern and Northern Nigeria in a way that promotes unity and national integration.
A Ticket That Cuts Across Nigeria.
South-South + North-West Alliance: This ticket unites the Niger Delta and the core North, two zones critical to winning national elections.
Christian-Muslim Balance: In a religiously sensitive country, this ticket addresses the concerns of both faiths respectfully.
Experience + Energy: Jonathan brings presidential experience, while Kwankwaso injects passion and bold grassroots mobilization.
Stronger Than Tinubu?
President Bola Tinubu, while influential, is currently facing serious challenges in the areas of economic hardship, insecurity, fuel subsidy backlash, and dwindling public trust. Voters are increasingly demanding real change, not recycled promises.
Jonathan-Kwankwaso offers:
A tested leader with proven democratic values.
A mass mobilizer with solid youth support in the North.
A nationally accepted duo not limited by tribal or regional sentiments.
If the goal is to unseat the incumbent APC government in 2027, the PDP or any opposition alliance must think beyond sentiments and focus on winnability. A Jonathan-Kwankwaso ticket has all the ingredients to win: experience, reach, balance, and national acceptance.
This is not just a ticket. It’s a movement waiting to be activated.
