The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a stern warning to its personnel and the general public against lobbying for special promotions, stressing that the recent wave of misinformation circulating online is misleading and dangerous.
In a strongly worded press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF expressed concern over the rise in unofficial requests and undue pressure being mounted on the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by some officers hoping to benefit from what they falsely believe is a widespread special promotion exercise.
The Police clarified that the recent accelerated promotions awarded were not arbitrary, but part of a deliberate and structured reward system designed to honour officers who have demonstrated outstanding service, professional excellence, and uncommon bravery. These officers, the Force emphasized, met strict guidelines and standards before being considered for promotion.
“The recent exercise does not signify the commencement of a general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme,” the statement read, debunking claims pushed by an unnamed online platform suggesting otherwise.
The NPF cautioned the public to disregard such reports, describing them as “baseless, misleading, and intended to undermine the integrity of the Force’s promotion process.” The Force reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and due process in all internal personnel decisions.
Officers were also firmly warned against attempting to influence the promotion process through backdoor lobbying or any unofficial channels, with the Force stating that such unethical behavior would attract severe disciplinary measures as provided by law.
The statement concluded by urging all police personnel to uphold discipline, professionalism, and remain committed to honourable service in the interest of national security.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to a promotion system anchored on integrity, verifiable merit, and honourable service to the nation,” DCP Adejobi said.
The Force’s position sends a clear message: only merit earns promotion—anything less will not be tolerated.
