The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has officially assumed control of the LUMINAH 2030 initiative from the Federal Ministry of Education to guarantee its continuity and long-term impact.
Speaking on the development, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, explained that the programme—launched in March 2025 with support from the World Bank—was designed to educate and empower one million underserved girls by 2030.
She said the initiative focuses on improving access to schooling, skills training, caregiver support, and community engagement, noting that it has already recorded significant progress in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Dr. Garba, UBEC will now integrate the project into its 10-year strategic roadmap to align with Nigeria’s national education priorities. She added that the Commission is committed to ensuring that every girl targeted by the initiative is not only enrolled in school but also empowered with life skills that will prepare them for the future.
“With UBEC at the helm, LUMINAH 2030 is no longer just a programme; it is now part of our national commitment to transform education and empower young girls across Nigeria,” she said.
