Rotimi Makinde's recent announcement as Chairman of the Governing Council of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic in Kebbi State marks a significant departure from his previous role as an ordinary member of the governing council at Federal Polytechnic of Offa. This development is being celebrated across the state and is described as one appointment that overshadows others. It's a clear indication that Makinde's personality is a pathway to the hearts of his people.
Let's not forget that this silent achiever was once a student of a notable institution, and now he's returning as chairman of a Governing Council. Coincidentally, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic is the alma mater of Makinde. In fact, he was the first non-indigene of Kebbi State to become student union president. He established a press club in the institution. Makinde had served in various capacities which includes, deputy chairman of human rights committee of the house of representatives, member of board Federal Polytechnic Damaturu Yobe state, Federal Polytechnic Offa Kwara state, commissioner Osun state judiciary service commission, assistant secretary of south west parliamentary committee for president Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2023, and a foundation member of the popular south west agenda.
Makinde is also a member of Nollywood and the first to be so elected into the House of Representatives. He is a giver and a grassroots politician who invested so much in the broadcasting industry and hospitality business. He is the owner of Oodua FM, located in Ile-Ife and Ogun State border of Lagos.
Makinde's elevation to this position, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and conveyed through a letter by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, underscores the confidence in his leadership abilities. His appointment places him in Category ‘B’ of Federal Government Agencies and Statutory Corporations. The celebration of this appointment across the state speaks volumes about Makinde's popularity and influence, particularly in Ile-Ife. His leadership values, vision, discipline, and commitment to public service and nation-building have been highlighted by supporters like Pastor Lazarus Abuah. Pastor Abuah commends President Tinubu for recognizing Makinde's potential, emphasizing that the administration's reforms in education require visionary leaders in strategic roles.
In light of this development, it's hoped that the party, the president, and indeed the state organs would tap into Makinde's popularity. Leveraging his influence could foster greater unity and development in the community, leveraging his connection with the people of Ile-Ife. Rotimi Makinde's appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic is a testament to his growing influence and the trust placed in him by top leadership. As he takes on this new role, Makinde's actions will likely have significant implications for educational development in Kebbi State and beyond.
