The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammad Sami II (rtd), has died at the age of 81. He passed away in a London hospital, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kebbi State, Ahmed Idris, confirmed on Sunday.
A former military governor of Bauchi State during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari from 1984 to 1985, the late Emir was highly regarded for his leadership and contributions to national development.
Governor Nasir Idris, who received the news with deep shock, described the Emir as “a father figure and elder statesman full of wisdom, who always had the interest of his people at heart.”
The Kebbi State Government, in a condolence message, expressed profound grief over the monarch’s passing, noting that his reign brought peace and development to the Zuru Emirate and the state at large.
“The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi State. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement read.
The Emir is survived by four wives and seven children.
