Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on northern political stakeholders to rally behind the president’s re-election bid, stressing the importance of continuity in governance for national stability and development.
Speaking during the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators held in Abuja, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to Nigeria’s progress and deserves to be allowed to complete the reforms and projects he has initiated.
“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” Gbajabiamila said, urging the northern elite to rise above partisan politics and focus on long-term national interests.
The event, which brought together past lawmakers from across the 19 northern states, was marked by intense deliberations on national unity, security, and economic recovery. In a communiqué issued at the end of the session, the Northern Caucus of the Forum pledged its support for the continuation of the Southern presidency beyond 2027, explicitly endorsing President Tinubu for a second term.
According to the statement jointly signed by Rufai Chanchangi (Coordinator) and Hon. Atiwurcha (Secretary), the Caucus expressed belief that allowing the South to complete its tenure would not only strengthen national cohesion but also give the North time to consolidate politically.
Forum Chairman, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, described the Caucus’ stance as patriotic and strategic, noting that the North must prioritize peace, infrastructural development, and security over political desperation.
“President Tinubu has shown immense courage in tackling Nigeria’s problems head-on,” he said. “From restructuring the economy to investing in security architecture in the North, this government has proven it understands what governance means.”
The Dialogue also highlighted Tinubu’s interventions in restive states such as Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, and Niger, where federal attention has led to improved security and new infrastructure projects.
The endorsement by the Northern Caucus of Former Legislators is seen by observers as a major boost for President Tinubu’s expected 2027 campaign, further solidifying his growing political support base in the region.
