YOLA, August 8, 2025 — A staggering 52,003 applicants are now in a fierce contest for only 4,000 vacancies in the Adamawa State Civil Service, highlighting the intense scramble for government employment amid the nation’s biting economic hardship.
The Adamawa State Civil Service Commission disclosed that the recruitment process, which began in April, initially attracted 96,102 applications. However, the number was pruned down after a rigorous screening exercise, leaving just over half of the original applicants in the race.
In a bid to ensure fairness and equal opportunity, the Commission has scheduled a mop-up Computer-Based Test (CBT) for candidates who missed the initial exam. The exercise is slated for August 9, 2025, at designated centres in Yola, the state capital.
According to officials, the recruitment drive covers various ministries, departments, and agencies across the state, with positions ranging from administrative and clerical roles to technical and professional cadres. The Commission stressed that the process remains transparent and merit-based, warning against patronising fraudsters claiming to have influence over job placements.
Observers note that the overwhelming number of applicants for limited slots mirrors the growing unemployment crisis in Nigeria, where secure public sector jobs are increasingly seen as a lifeline for thousands of young graduates and experienced professionals alike.
