Amid swirling speculation over his political future, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has firmly denied reports suggesting he plans to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Monday, 29th July 2025, Obi described the reports as “unfounded” and reaffirmed his loyalty to the coalition between the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he says represents a credible, people-focused alternative for Nigeria.
“My fellow Nigerians, I wish to categorically reaffirm my unwavering commitment to the coalition between the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress,” Obi said. “Our shared vision remains rooted in building a new Nigeria — one founded on justice, equity, accountability, and inclusive growth.”
Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition under the Labour Party, said he has no interest in rejoining the party or any political platform that does not align with the progressive ideals of the coalition he now champions.
“Let me be clear: I have no intention whatsoever of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or to any political formation that does not fully align with our movement’s progressive values and the aspirations of millions of Nigerians yearning for real change,” he stressed.
He described the coalition as a platform driven by “young people, reform-minded leaders, and citizens from all walks of life” determined to challenge the status quo and demand better governance.
Obi emphasized the urgency of Nigeria’s challenges and called for sincerity, unity, and leadership focused on service, not politics.
“This is not the time for political games or recycled narratives. It is time for unity, integrity, and a sincere commitment to the Nigerian project,” he added.
He concluded with a call for resilience and collective effort: “Let us remain steadfast and focused. Together, we will build the Nigeria we deserve.”
Peter Obi’s clarification comes at a time of growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
