In a major political shake-up that has sent shockwaves through the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, respected political elder and grassroots mobilizer, Alhaji Bello 110 Yauri, has received a wave of defectors from the APC into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The decampees, drawn from Tondi Gada — the hometown of the APC Local Government Chairman — openly declared their exit from the ruling party during a well-attended rally held in Yauri on Saturday. The event marks a significant boost to the ADC’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections, where Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation, is widely expected to contest.
Led by community leaders, women mobilizers, and youth groups, the decampees cited neglect, failed promises, and lack of internal democracy within the APC as reasons for their departure. They pledged total allegiance to the ADC and expressed unwavering support for Malami’s anticipated governorship bid, describing him as “the most prepared and people-oriented leader Kebbi has seen in decades.”
Speaking at the reception, Alhaji Bello 110 said the movement is only the beginning of a wider exodus from APC across Kebbi South.
“What you’re witnessing today in Tondi Gada is a clear message to the establishment — the people are tired. They are choosing leadership with integrity, and that is why they are following Malami to ADC,” he declared.
Spokespersons for the decampees, including Alhaji Musa Dan Mallam and Hajia Salamatu Buba, said they were inspired by Malami’s humility, record of service, and commitment to grassroots empowerment.
“We believe in Malami’s leadership. With ADC and people like Bello 110 showing us the way, 2027 is already looking like a new dawn for Kebbi,” Hajia Salamatu said.
The defection is particularly symbolic, taking place in the very hometown of the APC chairman of the local government — a development political observers say signals cracks within the ruling party’s stronghold.
With this strategic move, Bello 110 and his political family are solidifying ADC’s grassroots base across Kebbi South. As the race for 2027 begins to heat up, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: the Malami political train is gathering steam — and it’s pulling massive crowds along with it.
