In a significant show of commitment to the welfare of its senior citizens, the Jigawa State Government has disbursed a whopping ₦1.5 billion to 569 retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board, Dr. Binyaminu Usman Shitu, made this announcement while addressing journalists in Dutse, the state capital. According to him, the payment includes both retirement and death benefits for workers across the state civil service, local government councils, and the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
He noted that the disbursement covered retirees who completed the necessary documentation and verification process between April and June 2025.
Dr. Shitu lauded the unwavering support of Governor Umar Namadi, describing the gesture as a testament to the administration’s “people-first” approach.
“This is a clear indication that Governor Namadi’s administration is genuinely concerned about the welfare of our senior citizens who gave their productive years to the service of the state. These payments reflect not just policy, but humanity,” he said.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to ensuring prompt and transparent payment of benefits, adding that the process is being constantly reviewed and upgraded to eliminate bottlenecks.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed joy and relief at receiving their long-awaited entitlements, praising the state government for what they described as a “lifeline” amidst tough economic times.
This latest development comes at a time when pension arrears remain a thorny issue in many other states. Observers say Jigawa’s consistency in meeting pension obligations is setting a new benchmark in public service administration.
