In a dramatic political defection that has shaken the foundation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, Hon. Ahmed Bawa Kuka, former member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, has officially decamped to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), bringing along the majority of APC executives in Kalgo Local Government Area.
Kuka, who represented the Kalgo Constituency from 2015 to 2023 and also served as the Sole Administrator and Vice Chairman of Kalgo Local Government, was received into the ADC family by top-ranking stakeholders in the state, including Hon. Aminu Bunza, Hon. Dan Sabo, Dr. Sahihi, and a host of other ADC leaders.
The high-profile defection, which took place in a well-attended ceremony, marks a major setback for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political observers have described it as “a thunderbolt from Kalgo” and a "devastating loss for the APC in Kebbi.”
“This is not an ordinary defection,” one political analyst remarked. “Ahmed Bawa Kuka is a formidable grassroots politician whose influence cannot be overstated. With him now in the ADC, and most of the APC executives in Kalgo following his lead, the ruling party is clearly on shaky ground.”
Speaking at the event, Hon. Kuka stated that his decision was based on the need to align with a party that prioritizes integrity, inclusiveness, and genuine development. He condemned what he described as "godfather politics and internal oppression" within the APC.
"I have served my people faithfully for years, and I will not stand by while a few individuals hijack the will of the people. The ADC offers us a new beginning—one where the voices of the people will be heard and respected," Kuka said, drawing thunderous applause from supporters.
Hon. Aminu Bunza, while welcoming Kuka into the fold, described the defection as "a major win for the ADC and a new dawn for Kalgo and Kebbi State at large." He praised Kuka's leadership track record and assured him of full integration and cooperation within the party structure.
With Hon. Kuka's entry into the ADC and the collapse of the APC structure in Kalgo, analysts say a political tsunami may be looming in Kebbi State. The momentum is clearly shifting, and 2027 is already looking like a fierce battleground.
