In a move underscoring his administration’s commitment to national peace and security, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State and will now travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. This urgent change in itinerary follows the President’s resolve to address the escalating crisis that continues to plague several communities in Benue.
The decision, announced through a State House press release issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasizes President Tinubu’s determination to personally assess the devastating impact of the conflict that has claimed many lives and displaced scores of families.
During his visit to Benue, the President is expected to meet with a wide spectrum of stakeholders—including traditional rulers, political figures, religious and community leaders, and youth groups—in a concerted effort to restore peace and find lasting solutions to the hostilities.
Ahead of his arrival, President Tinubu has already deployed key officials to the state: the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees are already on ground to engage with local authorities and prepare for the President’s engagements.
A town hall meeting will be the centerpiece of the President’s visit, where he will interface directly with the people of Benue in an open dialogue aimed at rebuilding trust and community resilience.
President Tinubu has previously condemned the violence in Benue, appealing to all sides to embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and communities affected by the long-running crisis.
The visit to Kaduna State, originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, to commission a number of state projects, will now hold on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
This shift in schedule underscores the urgency of the situation in Benue and the President’s prioritization of national unity, peacebuilding, and the safety of Nigerian lives.
