The Ogun State Government has urged community leaders to actively support the enforcement of environmental laws as part of efforts to address the recurring challenges of flooding and pollution across the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ademola Balogun, made the call during the inauguration of the newly established Environment Community Relations Committee.
The commissioners charged committee members to not only monitor and report environmental infractions but also assist in enforcing existing regulations. As part of their mandate, the committee members will be empowered to make arrests where necessary to ensure compliance.
According to the state government, the initiative is a proactive step to involve grassroots stakeholders in safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainable urban development.
