In a decisive breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the state’s most wanted killer and suspected cult kingpin, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso. The 44-year-old fugitive was captured on June 20, 2025, during a high-level tactical operation that led officers to his hidden lair in Agbado, Ogun State, following years of evading law enforcement.

Akinwande, long regarded as the architect of violent cult-related attacks, robberies, and kidnappings across Mushin and its environs, has been on the police radar for over a decade. According to the Lagos State Police, he is believed to have masterminded multiple murders, with four bereaved families already stepping forward to identify him as the killer of their loved ones.

During the raid on his hideout, police operatives made a chilling discovery of a deadly arsenal and sensitive documents, including:

  • 2 AK-47 rifles
  • 1 K2 assault rifle
  • 1 Red Ryder rifle
  • 3 pump-action shotguns
  • 2 locally made pistols
  • 5 magazines
  • 57 live cartridges
  • 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
  • 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 1 expended shell
  • 1 dagger
  • 3 walkie-talkies
  • 9 international passports belonging to different individuals

In response to the arrest, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed an immediate expansion of the investigation to apprehend Akinwande’s associates and other accomplices in his criminal syndicate.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is calling on all residents to remain alert and continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
