In a bold step toward smarter urban governance, the Lagos State Government has launched the Lagos Identity Project—a pioneering digital house-numbering system designed to transform address identification across the state.
The system introduces QR-coded address plates that will not only simplify identification of buildings but also enhance emergency response, urban planning, service delivery, and significantly reduce instances of rental fraud.
Currently being piloted in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, the initiative is set to scale across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
The project was developed in collaboration with Interspatial Limited, following two years of extensive aerial mapping and data collection. It complies with global data protection standards and aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Smart City agenda, aimed at digitizing public infrastructure for improved governance and citizen experience.
According to government officials, the digital address system will provide a reliable geospatial database, crucial for long-term urban planning, effective tax collection, and accurate property identification.
This innovation marks a significant milestone in Lagos’ journey toward becoming Africa’s model megacity, leveraging technology to improve daily life and public administration.
