In a major offensive against crime and drug trafficking, the Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected drug dealer and impounded more than 300 motorcycles and tricycles across the state.
Spokesperson for the Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that the suspect, identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, was apprehended with a staggering quantity of narcotics, including 136 capsules of Tramadol, 568 Valium tablets, 226 wraps of Indian hemp, as well as local illicit substances known as “Kurkura” and “Suck and Die.” Authorities also recovered over ₦200,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of drug sales.
The crackdown, which targeted both criminal elements and traffic offenders, also led to the recovery of 500 knives, 148 cutlasses, and a cache of other dangerous weapons reportedly traced to unauthorized local fabricators.
As part of the operation, the police impounded 220 motorcycles and 69 tricycles for various offences ranging from lack of proper registration to the use of concealment aids. Some of the vehicles have been linked to ongoing robbery and drug-related investigations.
Additionally, three individuals were arrested for tampering with IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones, in a bid to obstruct identification and resale tracking.
The Command has directed owners of the seized vehicles to come forward with valid proof of ownership for verification. The police reiterated their commitment to making Gombe State safe and warned that similar operations will continue across all zones in the state.
