In a renewed effort to rid Lagos of urban criminality and reclaim public spaces from lawlessness, the Lagos Environmental Taskforce launched a midnight raid across key highbrow areas, arresting 33 male suspects in Victoria Island, Falomo, Ikoyi, and adjoining locations.
The operation, executed under the cover of darkness, was part of a broader initiative to sanitize the state’s upscale neighborhoods, which have recently experienced a spike in petty crimes and social nuisance. The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests, noting that the clampdown followed strategic intelligence reports and public complaints.
“These areas, known for their commercial and residential prestige, must not be allowed to deteriorate into havens for criminal elements,” Wahab said. “The safety and sanity of our environment are non-negotiable. All 33 suspects will face prosecution according to the law.”
The commissioner reiterated that the state government remains committed to restoring order, especially in areas where illegal street trading, squatting, and drug-related activities have become prevalent.
The raid, which involved a combined team of environmental officials and security agents, also served as a warning to those threatening the peace and cleanliness of Lagos’s elite districts. Authorities hinted that similar operations would continue in other parts of the state to deter miscreants and reassure law-abiding citizens.
Lagosians have been urged to support the government's efforts by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with task force officials during future enforcement operations.
