Abuja, May 28, 2025 – The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., has lauded the Ministry of Police Affairs for donating Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAVs) to the Nigeria Police Force, describing the gesture as a strategic boost to internal security operations.

The formal handover ceremony took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, with key dignitaries in attendance. The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, chaired the event, which was also graced by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, the Force Transport Officer, and other senior stakeholders in the security sector.

In his address, Senator Gaidam emphasized that the donation demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police with modern tools and resources to confront today’s complex security challenges. He called on police officers to ensure the armoured vehicles are deployed effectively in their duty to protect citizens and uphold national peace.

“The Ministry remains committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Force through meaningful interventions and capacity-building programs. This donation is part of a broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and officer safety,” Gaidam said.

Responding, IGP Egbetokun expressed deep appreciation for the Ministry’s sustained support, noting that the LTAVs will significantly enhance the Force’s ability to respond swiftly to threats and maintain law and order across the country.

“This is a welcome development in our collective effort to secure Nigeria. The vehicles will be strategically deployed to areas of critical need, and we will ensure they are used to their fullest potential,” the IGP said.

He reaffirmed the Police Force’s dedication to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, and building public trust through professionalism and improved service delivery.

The Inspector-General added that the deployment of the LTAVs will not only enhance operational effectiveness but also serve as a morale booster for personnel on the front lines.

The ceremony marks another milestone in the collaboration between the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Nigeria Police Force to bolster national security through improved logistics and infrastructure.
