GOMBE STATE — Armed hoodlums launched an attack on the Ashaka Cement Company airstrip in the Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State late Thursday night, targeting critical infrastructure in what appears to be a premeditated act of sabotage.
The assailants reportedly attempted to vandalize a signal tower within the facility when they were intercepted by security personnel stationed at the premises. A fierce exchange ensued, forcing the hoodlums to retreat temporarily.
However, during a second confrontation in the early hours of Friday, security forces engaged the attackers once more, leading to the death of one suspect. The remaining individuals managed to flee the scene and are currently being pursued by security operatives.
A senior security source confirmed that surveillance operations have been intensified, and an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and uncover the motive behind the attack.
The Ashaka Cement airstrip serves as a strategic facility for the company’s operations and is considered a vital asset in the region. Local authorities have assured residents that normalcy has been restored and measures are in place to prevent future breaches.
