In a scathing rebuke, the Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has accused former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of deliberately orchestrating the crisis plaguing the party.
Speaking during a live appearance on Arise TV on Monday, Ewor alleged that Wike’s actions since losing the PDP’s 2023 presidential ticket have been nothing short of a calculated mission to cripple the party from within.
“Wike wanted to be president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and he submitted to the primaries of the party, but Atiku won the party’s ticket,” Ewor stated. “Thereafter, Wike wanted to be the vice-presidential candidate, but because Atiku did not pick him, Wike started the crisis in PDP. He was the genesis of the crisis in PDP.”
The party chieftain further accused Wike of forming the controversial G5 Governors group as part of a broader strategy to sabotage the PDP’s chances in the general elections. According to him, Wike’s bitterness has transformed into a relentless campaign of destruction, even though the party has moved on from the electoral loss and is now working to rebuild and reconcile its ranks.
Despite still identifying as a PDP member, Wike’s open collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his ministerial role in President Tinubu’s government have raised eyebrows within the opposition. Ewor minced no words in questioning Wike’s loyalty.
“How do you advise the party, which you are no longer a member of? How do you advise people you’re busy destroying? The crisis we fight in PDP today is not because the PDP is in crisis; it is because the FCT minister is on a mission to destroy the party,” he declared.
Ewor also referenced Wike’s alleged involvement in the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, blaming him for the rift with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“What is the crime or sin of Fubara? He did not commit any crime. But because Wike wanted to control the structure of the party, the government, the House of Assembly, and every institution in the state to enable him rig the 2027 elections for the APC – that’s the root of the crisis in Rivers,” he added.
While Wike has yet to officially denounce his PDP membership, his consistent attacks on the party and its leadership, including his recent declaration of a “fight to finish,” have only fueled speculation about his true political allegiance. He is also widely suspected to have played a role in the attempt to suspend Governor Fubara and the push for a state of emergency in Rivers.
As tensions within the PDP persist, the party leadership says it is focused on reconciliation, but it remains to be seen how the rift between Wike and the party he once championed will be resolved.
