In a swift response to the recent unrest and killings in Uromi, the Nigeria Police Force has removed Mrs. Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin as the Commissioner of Police in Edo State. Her removal comes barely three months after her appointment on January 16, 2025, as the 49th Commissioner of Police in the state. She had taken over from CP Peter Umoru Ozigi, who retired from service on January 25, 2025.
Stepping into her shoes is Mr. Monday Agbonika, who has now been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State. Until his deployment, CP Agbonika served as the Commissioner of Police (Mounted Troop) and Force Equitation Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The new Edo police chief has been charged to be proactive and hit the ground running, with a clear mandate to tackle the rising crime rate in the state. Most notably, he has been directed to prioritize investigations and decisive action regarding the recent Uromi killings that have sent shockwaves across the state and nation.
CP Agbonika’s experience and leadership are expected to bring a fresh approach to security management in Edo State, as residents look to the police for reassurance and swift justice in the wake of the tragic Uromi incident.
