The dark clouds of terror have returned to the northeast as Boko Haram resurfaces with terrifying vengeance, killing over 300 Nigerians—including more than 100 gallant soldiers—in a staggering 252 attacks within just six months. This grim revelation was made by Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, in a press briefing held in Abuja.
Raising alarm over what he described as a "deteriorating security situation," Ndume disclosed that the unrelenting wave of attacks has led to the complete fall of three local government areas—Gudumbari, Marte, and Abadam—into the hands of the insurgents. "The situation is dire and calls for immediate and extraordinary military response," the Senator declared.
Troubled by the magnitude of the crisis, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum was forced to lead a high-powered delegation, including members of the National Assembly, to meet with the top echelon of Nigeria's military leadership. The aim, Ndume said, was to draw urgent attention to the deteriorating security situation that has once again turned peaceful communities into war zones.
Despite these grim developments, Ndume acknowledged the resilience of Nigeria's military forces, stating that over 800 terrorists have been neutralized during recent operations. However, he warned that the Armed Forces are overstretched and critically under-supported. "We must back our troops with more men, better equipment, and unwavering political will," he emphasized.
