Gov Lawal Stands Firm, Rejects APC Defection Rumors

ZAMFARA – Governor Dauda Lawal has decisively quashed speculations of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his commitment to his party and the people of Zamfara. In a statement released on April 21, 2025, Lawal dismissed the rumors as “fake news” spread by detractors aiming to derail his administration’s “Rescue Mission” for the state.

The speculations, which gained traction in political circles and on social media, suggested that Lawal was among PDP governors considering a move to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. Addressing the claims directly, Lawal declared, “I am a bona fide member of the PDP, focused on delivering my mandate to Zamfara’s people.” His swift rebuttal underscores his resolve to maintain party loyalty amid Nigeria’s charged political landscape.

While Zamfara continues to grapple with security challenges and political rivalries, Lawal’s firm stance aims to stabilize public confidence in his leadership. The governor’s focus remains on tackling banditry and driving development, undeterred by what he calls distractions from political opponents.

As the 2027 elections loom, Lawal’s rejection of defection rumors signals a broader commitment to PDP unity, setting the tone for his administration’s priorities in Zamfara.
