President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday played peacemaker as he met with members of the Lagos State House of Assembly at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The high-stakes meeting, which took place behind closed doors, brought together Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, and other lawmakers amid recent tensions within the assembly.
The legislators arrived in two white buses, with Deputy Speaker Meranda among them, while Speaker Obasa arrived separately a few minutes later. The meeting, held at a crucial time following leadership turmoil in the assembly, was seen as an intervention by President Tinubu to restore harmony among the lawmakers.
Although details of the discussions remain undisclosed, the outcome was clear. As the meeting concluded, the lawmakers erupted into a chorus of “On your mandate we shall stand,” a resounding show of loyalty to the president. The joyous atmosphere signaled a resolution to the crisis, with one attendee confirming, “Everything has been resolved.”
While an official statement is yet to be released, the display of unity suggests that Tinubu’s influence remains formidable in his home state’s political affairs. His role as a stabilizing force within the APC and Lagos politics continues to solidify, reaffirming his dominance in the state’s power dynamics.
