Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared that his father is the only Nigerian president who has not been interested in personal enrichment. He made this assertion while addressing a group of youths in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, where he extolled his father’s leadership and commitment to national development.
According to Seyi, President Tinubu has prioritized the welfare of Nigerian youths and has established economic policies that benefit all citizens rather than serving his personal interests. He stated:
"He is the only president that considers youths, the only president that created a platform for young people to fly. The only president that created an economy that has benefitted everybody, the only president that is not trying to enrich his own pocket."
His remarks come at a time when the Tinubu administration faces mounting criticism from opposition figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who recently accused the government of corruption. In his book Nigeria: Past and Future, Obasanjo alleged that some government projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar Super Highway, were merely avenues for misappropriating public funds. He also questioned the administration’s decision to allocate N21 billion for a new official residence for Vice President Kashim Shettima amid economic difficulties.
Seyi Tinubu’s statement adds to the ongoing political discourse surrounding the Tinubu presidency. While his words reflect unwavering support for his father, critics argue that transparency and accountability should remain the yardstick for assessing any administration.
