The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) witnessed a significant leadership transition today, March 6, 2025, as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, officially decorated six newly appointed Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, comes on the heels of the retirement of six veteran DIGs on March 3, after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.
The newly appointed DIGs, drawn from various commands and specialized departments, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the highest echelons of the Force. They include DIG Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, former Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; DIG Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, who previously served as the AIG in charge of the Department of Information Communication Technology at Force Headquarters, Abuja; DIG Williams Adebowale, former Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, who was the AIG of the FCID Annex, Enugu; DIG Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, previously AIG of Zone 14, Katsina; and DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, who served as AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa.
In addition, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, the former Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, was officially decorated following his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. His promotion recognizes his outstanding service in law enforcement and commitment to maintaining security in his previous jurisdiction.
During the decoration ceremony, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the newly promoted officers, describing their appointments as a recognition of their dedication, professionalism, and track records of excellence. He charged them with the responsibility of leading by example, upholding the core values of integrity, discipline, and service to the nation.

He further emphasized that their appointments come at a crucial time when the Force is undergoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, intelligence-driven policing, and community engagement to tackle security challenges across the country.
