In a decisive operation against illegal arms trafficking, troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation Safe Haven, have arrested a notorious arms dealer and seized a cache of weapons along the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu road in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The suspect, 21-year-old Sengi David from Kopal Village in Panyam District, Mangu LGA, was intercepted at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday while attempting to smuggle arms. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops found him in possession of an AK-47 magazine marked with civil police insignia and 48 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development on Thursday, noted that the arrest is part of a broader crackdown on arms proliferation fueling insecurity in the region. Military sources confirmed that the suspect is in custody, and a manhunt is ongoing for other members of the gun-running syndicate.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability, the Nigerian Army assured residents that it will sustain operations to dismantle criminal networks and curb the illegal flow of weapons across Plateau and other areas under its watch.
