Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has issued a sharp rebuke to the European Union, urging its leaders to "stop crying" over their exclusion from recent U.S.-Russia negotiations concerning the Ukraine conflict. Fico criticized the EU's approach, asserting that its persistent military and financial support for Kyiv has only served to prolong the war rather than facilitate peace.
Fico's comments come at a time when the EU is grappling with its role in the ongoing conflict, especially after being sidelined in direct talks between Washington and Moscow. He highlighted that despite the EU's self-portrayal as a diplomatic force, it has effectively marginalized itself by consistently dismissing ceasefire proposals over the past three years. According to Fico, the EU's aggressive stance has entrenched the conflict, leaving Brussels out of critical discussions now led by the U.S. and Russia.
This perspective underscores a growing divide within Europe.
