President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Dr. Hamid Bobboyi from his role as the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), eight months before the end of his tenure in August 2025.
Dr. Bobboyi, who was reappointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari for a second and final four-year term beginning on August 1, 2021, has now been replaced by Aisha Garba.
Garba, a seasoned education expert and Senior Education Specialist with the World Bank, brings over 24 years of experience spearheading transformative education initiatives in Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Kenya, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Her tenure at the World Bank spans more than 15 years, during which she has led the conceptualization, implementation, and assessment of impactful education reforms.
Her appointment signals President Tinubu's commitment to revamping the country's education sector, leveraging Garba's global expertise in human and economic development. As she assumes her new role, expectations are high that her leadership will steer UBEC toward achieving significant progress in universal basic education.
