In a remarkable move to bolster military cooperation and foster bilateral relations, the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja played host to a delegation from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Defence University (PLA) on Friday, December 13, 2024.
The delegation, led by Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, was warmly received by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Major General Etsu-Ndagi. The visit aimed at promoting collaboration in military training and education while deepening mutual understanding between the Nigerian Army (NA) and its Chinese counterparts.
Major General Etsu-Ndagi, in his address, emphasized the NA’s notable achievements in counter-terrorism operations, highlighting its adaptive operational strategies and commitment to capacity building. He noted that the Nigerian Army has successfully curbed the activities of terrorist groups through sustained training, strategic equipping, and innovative combat methods, leading to a significant reduction in security threats across the country.
Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, speaking on behalf of the PLA delegation, praised Nigeria’s dedication to addressing security challenges. He reiterated China’s unwavering commitment to international military cooperation, pledging to strengthen training programs and exchange initiatives between the two nations. Hu further stressed that shared learning and collaboration remain vital in enhancing global security and stability.
The PLA delegation, which included senior officers, theatre command representatives, and course participants, expressed optimism about the enduring partnership between Nigeria and China. Their visit underscored the importance of exploring new avenues for military synergy and fostering a stronger, future-proof relationship between both armies.
The event marks a significant milestone in Nigeria-China relations, paving the way for improved training opportunities, knowledge exchange, and a united front in addressing global security challenges.
