The Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty Nnaemeka Achebe, has issued a stern warning to the political class regarding the escalating level of corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking at the public presentation of Bold Leap, a book authored by Senator Chris Anyanwu in Abuja, the monarch called on leaders to prioritize the public interest over personal and selfish ambitions. He emphasized that this is the only path to genuine national growth.
Drawing an analogy, the Obi cautioned that the pervasive corruption in the country resembles over-milking a cow, which would eventually die if not properly managed. He criticized the political class for their lack of accountability and commitment to good governance, likening their behavior to unsustainably exploiting resources without replenishment.
In his words:
"Should we continue milking the cow, it will die. Since independence, we’ve been talking and talking and talking. I think it’s time to move beyond talking to taking action because we have two choices: either we keep milking the cow until it dies, driven by sectional and personal interests, or we do the opposite and place Nigeria above all else.
"People enter public service not to serve the public, but to serve themselves. Time is no longer on our side. It’s either we milk the cow to death very quickly or we act fast to save and turn the country around."

The 600-page autobiography, Bold Leap, is divided into three parts and 19 chapters. It chronicles the life and achievements of Senator Chris Anyanwu, offering reflections on leadership, governance, and national development.
