In a show of dissatisfaction, the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State took to the streets of Dutse on Friday, calling for the removal of the Minister of Defense, Badaru Abubakar. The group, under the banner of Jigawa APC Youth Concern Citizens (JAYCC), voiced concerns over Badaru’s alleged lack of support for the party's policies and his perceived alignment with the opposition, PDP.
The protest, led by JAYCC Coordinator Ahmad Magaji Bashir, aimed to bring attention to a series of grievances against Badaru. Bashir claimed the minister’s actions were undermining the APC’s presence in Jigawa and harming the party’s unity, alleging that Badaru’s supporters had even vandalized billboards featuring APC leadership, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
“We are disappointed that Badaru has failed to support APC policies in Jigawa and appears to be collaborating with PDP interests,” Bashir stated. He emphasized the group’s concern that Badaru’s continued role could tarnish the APC’s reputation in Jigawa and nationwide. “His actions are against the party's interests, and we urge President Tinubu to reconsider his appointment,” Bashir stressed.
As the conflict between Badaru and Jigawa’s incumbent governor, Umar Namadi, intensifies, tensions have spilled over into the media, with supporters from both sides engaging in heated debates. Attempts to reach the Defense Minister’s media aide, Mati Ali, were unsuccessful as he was reportedly attending a burial ceremony at the time.
The situation remains fluid, with eyes on both parties to see how they will address the rift and work towards a potential resolution.
