In a significant stride toward socio-economic empowerment, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commissioned the COWA Multi-Purpose Skills Acquisition Centre on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Karu Customs Barracks in Abuja.
Accompanied by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Minister of Women Affairs, the First Lady, represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim Shettima, lauded the project as a cornerstone of the 'Renewed Hope' agenda aimed at empowering women and fostering community growth.
In her speech, Mrs. Shettima praised the National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, for her visionary leadership in establishing the Centre. "This facility symbolizes hope and dedication to uplifting lives. It offers a range of training programs that will foster economic growth and social transformation for its beneficiaries," she said.
The Comptroller-General of Customs echoed this sentiment, describing the project as a transformative initiative for the Karu community. "This Centre reflects our commitment to community development. It empowers women and contributes to the socio-economic advancement of Nigeria,” he remarked, pledging to expand similar initiatives in 2025.
Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi emphasized the Centre’s potential to transform lives through its diverse training programs, including ICT, tailoring, catering, and Adire-making. "This project is a testament to the power of collective effort and dedication," she noted, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders, including her husband, for their unwavering support.
