The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is poised to host the 7th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), a key event aimed at fostering economic growth through diaspora investment. At a press conference in Abuja, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, emphasized that the NDIS has been instrumental in empowering Nigerians abroad to channel their resources, skills, and networks towards strengthening the country’s economy since its inception in 2018.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the summit's role as a bridge connecting diaspora investors with local entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups across various sectors. By doing so, the NDIS has facilitated job creation, innovation, and economic diversification, significantly contributing to Nigeria's development over the past six years.
She assured that this year's edition would be exceptional, featuring thought-provoking discussions, networking opportunities, and strategies for leveraging the Nigerian diaspora's potential. The summit is expected to attract high-profile participants, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will deliver a goodwill message, alongside Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Niyi Olajide as Special Guests of Honour.
The NiDCOM Chairman acknowledged the summit's success in attracting over N500 million in investments to support various start-up initiatives. She expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Assembly, particularly the Senate and House Committees on Diaspora, the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), as well as public and private sector partners for their unwavering support.
Dr. Badewa Adejugbe-Williams, the Summit Coordinator, who joined the event virtually, praised the NDIS as a catalyst for uniting Nigerians and driving economic progress. "We are all part of the solution," she said, lauding Dabiri-Erewa's efforts in reshaping Nigeria's narrative both at home and abroad.
Kachi Okezie Esq, a team member of the NDSI, elaborated on the pitching process for prospective investors, noting that participants undergo interviews and training to refine their presentations. The summit will focus on key sectors such as Finance, ICT, Fintech, Creative Industries, Sports, Agribusiness, Healthcare, Education, Real Estate, and Manufacturing.
