Shehu Sani’s Loyalists Return to APC Ahead of His Speculated Defection

By Zara Maisango

In a surprising political development, no fewer than 10,000 supporters of Senator Shehu Sani have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, reigniting speculations about the senator's own impending return to the ruling party.

Senator Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2019 under the APC, had previously left the party for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and contested the gubernatorial ticket in the 2023 elections. However, the tides seem to be shifting as reliable sources indicate that Sani’s re-entry into the APC is imminent.

A source close to the senator revealed that “all things being equal,” the former lawmaker is expected to rejoin the APC in the coming days. This speculation was fueled by the mass defection of his loyalists, who rallied from across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State. In a show of support, they stormed the APC 2023 Campaign Office at the NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna, carrying posters that read, “Welcome back, Senator Sani.”

The return of such a significant number of supporters has set the stage for Senator Sani’s anticipated defection, signaling a major political shift within the state and boosting the strength of the APC ahead of future elections. His loyal base has already made their stance clear, creating an air of expectancy around what is yet to be officially confirmed by the senator himself.

With this wave of defections, all eyes now rest on the political horizon as Kaduna State prepares for what could be a pivotal moment in the state's political dynamics.
