Ambassador Abu Shawesh Condemns Ongoing US-Israeli Massacres in Palestine

By Mohammed Bello Doka

In a harrowing press release issued on September 5, 2024, Ambassador Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh of the Embassy of the State of Palestine condemned the relentless US-Israeli assault on the Palestinian people, now entering its 334th day. The press release emphasized the global ramifications of this war, arguing that the ongoing genocidal campaign not only targets Palestinians but also threatens the very foundations of the post-World War II global political and economic order.

As of September 3, the death toll has reached a staggering 40,738, with more than 94,154 injured and thousands still missing under the rubble. Tragically, 70% of these casualties are women and children, with 4% of the victims being elderly. In addition to the mounting deaths, 10,400 Palestinians, including 725 children, 400 women, and 98 journalists, have been detained since the war began in October 2023. Many have died in Israeli custody due to medical neglect.

The destruction has extended far beyond human casualties. Around 600,000 Gazan children have been denied access to education for the second year in a row, as nearly 70% of UNRWA schools have been destroyed or damaged. These schools, which once served as centers of learning, now shelter displaced families amid overcrowded and unsafe conditions.

Ambassador Abu Shawesh stressed that the Israeli aggression is not limited to Gaza but extends to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, where daily attacks by settlers and occupation soldiers continue to ravage Palestinian communities. In the West Bank alone, 681 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 6,700 injured since the conflict began.

Ambassador Abu Shawesh called on the international community to uphold international law and UN resolutions to halt the bloodshed. "No one is safe until everyone is safe," he remarked, urging global unity against the ongoing carnage and the arms transfers fueling the conflict. His message underscored the necessity of confronting the unlawful actions of the United States and other Western nations that continue to supply Israel with weapons in clear violation of the Arms Trade Treaty.

The Ambassador’s plea is a powerful reminder that the world must act now to stop this humanitarian disaster and restore peace in the region.

334 days of Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people

The ongoing US-Israeli massacres of Palestinians are a wake-up call for all humanity around the world. They do not only target the Palestinian people, but in fact target the current economic and political orders that ruled the world after World War II, which no longer serve the interests of US hegemony and some Western empires. They are deliberately streaming and televising the genocide and turning their backs on international law in a clear message to the countries of the South: unless you accept the upcoming economic and political rules and systems, you will face the same fate of the Palestinian people. As of Tuesday, September 3, the death toll has risen to 40,738, with the injuries have risen to 94,154, while thousands still missing under the ruble, it goes without saying that 70% of them are innocent women and children. It’s not only women and children who make up the majority of the Palestinian victims but also elderly Gazans, with about 4% of the innocent victims being elderly.1The total number of Palestinian arrests stands at 10,400 citizens from the West Bank since October 7, including 725 children, 400 women, and 98 journalists. “Over 60 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody in recent months, many due to medical neglect.”2As all the boys and girls return to school these days, around 600,000 Gazans are denied the right to education for the second year in a row due to the ongoing Israeli war. To make matters worse, around 70% of UNRWA schools have been destroyed or damaged, and the majority of them are overcrowded shelters housing hundreds of thousands of displaced families. The Israeli war is not limited to Gaza but also extends to the Occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, where the Settlers thugs accompanied by the Occupation soldiers are attacking Palestinian communities on a daily basis. In the West Bank, since the beginning of the war, 681 Palestinians have been martyred and nearly 6,700 have been injured. “Some of the world’s biggest arms exporters on top of them the USA are continuing to openly flout the rules of the Arms Trade Treaty through unlawful arms transfers, leading to a devastating loss of life in conflict zones such as the Occupied Palestinian Territory……. “500 transport planes and 107 ships have delivered more than 50,000 tons of armaments and military equipment from the United States to Israel since the start of the war in Gaza last October”3… “States parties and signatories {of the Arms Trade Treaty}, including the USA – the largest provider of arms to Israel – continue to license arms transfers to Israel in spite of overwhelming evidence of war crimes committed by Israeli forces.”4Do I reveal a secret when I say that the US and some other Western countries are waging war against the Palestinian people? Of course not.We call on the international community to stand strong and firmly to enforce international law, the adopted UN resolutions and to utilize all political, economic, legal and diplomatic tools at its disposal to stop the ongoing American-Israeli carnage and bloodshed. No one is safe until everyone is safe.
