In a disturbing turn of events, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a brutal assault on its personnel by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, commonly known as the 'Shi'ite' group. The attack occurred at a police checkpoint near the traffic light at Wuse Junction. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left three others critically injured and currently unconscious in the hospital. Additionally, three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze.
According to the FCT Police Command, the assault was unprovoked, with the attackers brandishing machetes, knives, and improvised explosive devices made from bottles filled with kerosene. The violent incident escalated quickly, causing chaos and panic in the area.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has strongly condemned the attack on the officers, labeling it a heinous crime against the state's law enforcement. He assured the public that those responsible for this act would be apprehended and face the full weight of the law. Several arrests have already been made in connection with the incident, and the situation is now under control with normalcy restored to the area.
The FCT Police Command has promised to provide further updates as more details become available. In the meantime, the public is urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
