In the heart of Abuja, during the second day of a solidarity march organized by the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, Director-General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency and a prominent supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made a fervent appeal for patience among protesting Nigerians, particularly the youth.
The march, which saw widespread participation from citizens supporting the President’s initiatives, served as a platform for Umar to address the ongoing nationwide protests. Drawing upon the African proverb, “A single bracelet does not jingle,” Umar emphasized the importance of collective patience and unity in these trying times. He urged the public to recognize that the President is committed to listening to their concerns and is actively working on solutions.
Umar highlighted several key policy measures recently introduced by President Tinubu as indicators of progress. These include the creation of a Student Loan Board, which aims to ease the financial burden on students, and the approval of a new national minimum wage, which represents an over 100% increase. The President has also facilitated the opening of borders for the importation of essential food items and introduced tax holidays for food importers. Additionally, the push for Local Government Autonomy is seen as a significant step towards addressing the systemic issues affecting Nigeria’s economy.
Referencing successful economic reforms in other nations, Umar pointed to countries like South Korea and Vietnam, which, after implementing strategic economic transitions, achieved notable stability and growth. He suggested that these examples offer valuable lessons and hope for Nigeria’s future.
Umar’s appeal is grounded in the understanding that economic challenges are a global phenomenon. He reassured Nigerians that the government is making every effort to alleviate these challenges and provide much-needed relief. He concluded his address with the wisdom of the proverb, “Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it,” advocating for a shared commitment to support and patience as Nigeria navigates these transformative changes.
The solidarity march, a show of support from the Tinubu Support Group, underscored a collective resolve to back the President’s policies and efforts. Umar’s call for unity and patience was a central theme, aiming to foster a collaborative approach to overcoming the nation’s economic hurdles.
