In a significant triumph for security forces, Operation Hadarin Daji of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralized over 100 terrorists during a nighttime strike at Kuka Shidda Camp, Faskari Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State. The precision operation targeted a criminal group led by notorious terrorists Yusuf Yellow and his close associate Rabe Imani. Alongside the elimination of the terrorists, the airstrikes also resulted in the destruction of over 45 motorcycles used by the bandits for their criminal activities.
Governor Dikko Radda’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, highlighted the operation's success in a statement released yesterday. Mohammed noted that this air raid marks the third successful assault in the Faskari-Kankara axis in recent times, significantly disrupting bandit activities in the region. He emphasized that these operations are part of a broader strategy to restore peace and security in Katsina State, which has been plagued by banditry and kidnappings.
Further reinforcing the state's security efforts, the statement also detailed a successful rescue mission carried out by the police. In the early hours of Sunday morning, around 4:15 am, a distress call was received about a kidnapping incident in the Kwata Area, Jibia LGA. A SUPOL-led Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team found armed bandits holding three women captive. Acting swiftly and strategically, the patrol team blocked the kidnappers’ escape route, leading to a confrontation. A gunfight ensued, pressuring the criminals to abandon their captives and flee.
The victims – Ummulkhari Abubakar, 23; Shafa’atu Abubakar, 35; and Maryam Lawal, 15 – were all rescued unharmed. Among the abducted was a six-month-old baby boy named Ismail Usman, who was also safely recovered. According to the police source, the security forces displayed commendable restraint during the operation, expending only 14 rounds of ammunition and 20 smoke canisters, ensuring minimal collateral damage.
Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed’s statement underscored the significance of these successful operations. “The swift response not only saved lives but also sent a strong message to criminal elements that such acts will not be tolerated,” he said. He added that the government remains committed to enhancing the security apparatus to ensure the protection of citizens.
The statement also praised the collaboration between different security agencies, which has been crucial in achieving these successes. It highlighted the continuous efforts to gather intelligence, improve response times, and execute operations with precision.
Governor Dikko Radda expressed his gratitude to the NAF and police forces for their unwavering dedication and bravery. He assured the people of Katsina State that the government is taking all necessary measures to safeguard their lives and property. The governor also called on the community to support security efforts by providing timely information and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
These recent victories in Katsina State are seen as a morale booster for both security personnel and residents. They reflect the positive impact of coordinated efforts between the military and police, and the ongoing commitment of the government to combat terrorism and banditry. As security forces continue their operations, the hope for lasting peace and stability in Katsina State remains strong.
