The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has asserted that no amount of threat from the embattled chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, will intimidate the federal government of Nigeria.
Abbas issued a statement in response to Kwankwaso’s allegation that the APC-led federal government is attempting to create a new breed of Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents in Northern Nigeria. Kwankwaso made this claim during a flag-off ceremony for the construction of an 85-kilometer rural road in his hometown, Madobi, which is projected to cost N21 billion.
He stated that Kwankwaso, disturbed by the dismal performance of his protege in the past year and longing for control of Kano politics, should be arrested by security agents to identify those he alleges are recruiting Boko Haram terrorists.
"We call on security agents to arrest this man so that he can reveal the identities of those he refers to as enemies of the state working for the federal government to recruit Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents," the statement read.
Abbas indicated that Kwankwaso's comments suggest a sinister motive to create unrest in Kano. He accused Kwankwaso of leading a cult-like movement, recruiting youths, mostly school dropouts, to terrorize the people of Kano. He recalled that before and during the 2023 election, such youths were used to intimidate the public through physical attacks and property destruction.
He also mentioned threats made by Kwankwaso and his associates to kill judges of the Election Petition Tribunal if the outcome was unfavorable to them. Abbas highlighted that since Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was installed as Emir, weapon-wielding thugs have been recruited and stationed at the Emir’s Palace, where illicit substances are openly sold, posing a threat to nearby residents.
