Arsenal Ready €100m Bid for Victor Osimhen

By Mohammed Bello Doka

Arsenal is set to make a significant splash in the transfer market, preparing a €100 million bid for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. According to reports from Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, the Premier League giants are keen to add the Napoli star to their roster, although their proposed bid falls €30 million short of the release clause stipulated in his recent contract with the Italian club.

Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has publicly stated that the club will not entertain offers below the release clause, which is understood to be around €130 million. This figure would surpass Arsenal’s current transfer record, set at £105 million with the acquisition of Declan Rice from West Ham United last summer. Despite this, Arsenal is optimistic about striking a deal closer to €100 million, approximately £85 million, in a bid to bolster their attacking options.

Osimhen, who has been a standout performer in Serie A, scoring 31 goals in all competitions last season, is reportedly eager to test himself in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has attracted attention from several top clubs across Europe, but Arsenal appears to be leading the race for his signature. “[Arsenal] will now try with the Nigerian [who dreams of the Premier League], but not by paying the onerous amount of the clause, but a lower sum,” Venerato reported. “Napoli will have to evaluate the pros and cons.”

Arsenal’s interest in Osimhen underscores their ambition to challenge for the Premier League title and make significant progress in European competitions. The club has already made key signings in recent windows, and the addition of Osimhen would further enhance their attacking prowess. However, the negotiations with Napoli are expected to be complex, given De Laurentiis’s firm stance on the release clause.

The potential acquisition of Osimhen also highlights Arsenal’s strategic shift towards younger, high-potential players who can make an immediate impact while also providing long-term value. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has been a driving force behind this vision, aiming to build a squad capable of competing at the highest levels.

As the summer transfer window progresses, Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on this potential blockbuster move. Osimhen’s arrival could signal a new era for the club, reinforcing their commitment to regaining their status among Europe’s elite. However, much will depend on Napoli’s willingness to negotiate and Arsenal’s ability to meet the financial demands involved in such a high-profile transfer.

In the meantime, Arsenal continues to prepare for the upcoming season, with pre-season training sessions and friendly matches providing opportunities for the current squad to gel and for new signings to integrate. The club’s management remains focused on securing their primary targets to ensure they are well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
