The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo and Ondo States. This decision was made during a meeting held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in response to appeals from various stakeholders. Originally scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the registration period will now continue from Thursday, June 6, to Sunday, June 9, 2024, with daily operations extended from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
To accommodate more eligible voters, INEC has increased the number of registration centers. Beyond the initial 397 wards and the state offices in Benin City and Akure, all 36 Local Government offices in the two states will now serve as registration centers. Additional machines will be deployed to areas with difficult terrain or communal issues to ensure broader access.

The CVR exercise has been progressing well. As of Monday, June 3, 2024, a total of 120,458 new voters have registered. Among these, 46.4% are male, and 53.6% are female. The majority of the new registrants, 68.8%, are youths aged 18-34 years. Students constitute 36.8% of the registrants, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) represent 0.67%.
INEC urges eligible voters to take advantage of this extension to register, transfer, or correct their personal information on their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The commission has stated that no further extensions will be granted.
